Persona hasn't been very spooky for a long time. We've been putting up with Persona 5's albeit amazingly jazzy aesthetic for over a decade at this point, and while Persona 4 was definitely spooky in places, it still had you jumping into groovy, colorful TV worlds. The last time that Persona was truly horror-focused, in my opinion, was Persona 3, with its eerie Dark Hour and Tartarus.
However, that looks set to change pretty soon, as the teaser trailer for Persona 6 that was shown off during the Xbox Showcase last night seemed to hint that spooky Persona is coming back with a bang. Not only was the trailer dark and foreboding, but it panned slowly over what looked like a graveyard, which was then followed up with rather creepy imagery.
If you weren't a Persona fan, you'd assume that the next Persona game was going to be pure horror, but unfortunately, proper Persona fans have played these games before. We'll need to wait and see exactly what Persona 6's aesthetic is before people get excited, because this wouldn't be the first time a Persona game's marketing was very different to the actual game.
