Final Fantasy is going to have a pretty big year next year, what with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Final Fantasy 14's next expansion, Evercold, coming in January too. That doesn't mean there aren't any plans for the series this year though, as during today's Nintendo Direct, an HD-2D Final Fantasy game was announced called Final Fantasy Resonance.

It was a pretty jam-packed trailer, but before we dive into it, it's worth knowing that this is essentially a rebuilding and reimagining of the first season of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the free-to-play mobile game that was shut down back in 2025. It's not a port or remake, but he game will relate to Exvius by featuring the game's characters.

As for the combat, we got a nice look at that too. We can see that it looks to be the typical Octopath Traveller-esque turn-based system, with both allies and enemies having a set place on a timeline.
