Minecraft Dungeons is quite literally a dungeon crawler that takes place in the Minecraft universe. It's a simple premise, but one popular enough that it's getting a sequel, and a better look at that upcoming sequel has led to the original Dungeons becoming more popular than ever.

It's been rumored that Mojang has been working on Minecraft Dungeons 2 for a long time - artwork from the project that is now confirmed to be real leaked over a year ago. It wasn't confirmed to be real until earlier this year, and then the sequel got a beefy new trailer and a release date during last week's Xbox Games Showcase.

The latest trailer for Minecraft Dungeons 2 appears to have tempted people back to the first game, or perhaps convinced regular Minecraft fans to try it for the first time while they wait for the sequel, as, on Steam at least, its player count has spiked. In fact, it has spiked multiple times, having broken its concurrent player record on Steam every single day since Sunday, the day on which the new trailer for Minecraft Dungeons 2 debuted (via SteamDB).

Before Sunday, Minecraft Dungeons' record player count on Steam was 4,022....
