Developer Nine Dots has announced an Outward 2 delay for the open-world co-op RPG, following an open beta ahead of the previously planned Outward 2 release date of July 7th.
According to Nine Dots CEO, and Creative Director Guillaume, the open beta that they released last week along with the trailer did not meet users expectations. While it was planned to be an early access launch, failure to get attention at release for early access games can be a death knell, and in his post about the delay Guillaume acknowledges that the decision was very painful because some of their most dedicated players had planned their summer break around Outward 2's release, but believed that it would be even worse if people played something over vacation they were not happy with.
Guillaume explains that its difficult to judge stability needed for Early Access, and all they could do was "take a hard, honest look at the game, and at our team, and ask: in a few weeks, will this be good enough to charge money for?".
