Vampire Survivors Studio Reconsidering Fortnite Crossover Amid Latest AI Controversy

There were two big Fortnite reveals on Wednesday. One was a list of upcoming games the live service juggernaut will be crossing over with. The other was a peek behind the curtain at the creative process, a process that utilizes generative AI, and it seems the latter may have hurt the former.

Vampire Survivors is one of the four games Epic confirmed it will be working with on a Fortnite collaboration, or at least that was the case at the time of the reveal. In the hours since, Poncle, the studio behind Vampire Survivors, appears to be reconsidering things.

Shared by prominent Fortnite fan account FireMonkey, Poncle revealed to its followers on Discord that the Vampire Survivors x Fortnite crossover may no longer be happening. "Following today's news about gen AI usage by Epic to create all sorts of game assets, including Fortnite characters, we're currently 'reviewing' our collaboration with Fortnite," Poncle's post reads.

What that means exactly remains unclear. It could mean that Poncle isn't happy about any gen AI use during Fortnite's creative process whatsoever. That the reviewing in question is the studio trying to figure out if and how it can back out of what I'm assuming...
