It Turns Out The PS5 Is Already Capable Of Running Bloodborne At 4K

We're in the sixth year of the PlayStation 5, and there's still no sign of a Bloodborne upgrade. A critical darling often regarded as FromSoftware's magnum opus — and popular enough to warrant a movie — it's a little surprising that it has been left to rot in the Hunter's Dream. Sure, there are some fans asking for a sequel or even a full-blown remake, but most would be content with a 60fps patch. So, where is it?

There are a few theories on why Bloodborne doesn't have a PS5 upgrade yet, from respecting director Hidetaka Miyazaki's wishes that nobody else touch his work to the closure of Japan Studio, but one of the most pervasive theories is that it would be too much of an undertaking. If you've played Dark Souls on PC with an uncapped 60fps mod, you'll know firsthand that it isn't always as simple as flipping a switch — animations, collision detection, and physics in older Souls games are often hardcoded to 30fps, and removing the cap can break certain parts of the game. So, the idea goes that the same is true for Bloodborne.
