Insomniac Games Issues A Statement About Wolverine’s Physical Version After GTA 6 Concerns

Yesterday, Rockstar Games revealed a swathe of new information about Grand Theft Auto 6, some of which was very controversial. It was confirmed that a bunch of content, including vehicles, weapons, and shops, would be locked behind its more expensive Ultimate Edition, and that the physical version of the game would be nothing more than a code in a box.

This decision, which isn't expected to impact GTA 6's sales, did cause some whiplash, with a range of stores coming out to say they wouldn't be stocking the title.

While codes in a box are nothing new, GTA 6 is the largest title to have been released this way. Thankfully, though, it doesn't seem like it will become a trend, with Insomniac Games, which has Wolverine coming out in a few months, moving to distance itself from the practice.

I remember working as a retail store manager for GAME in the UK back in 2017, when we sold some "code in a box" games. It never fully took off, though. There was some fear, however, that if Rockstar did it, everybody else might follow suit, given the company's power.
