Steam Machine Copycats Have Already Managed To Create A More Powerful Knock-Off For The Same Price

Earlier this week, Valve finally revealed how much its long-awaited Steam Machine, and the reaction was less than positive. For just a 512GB model, you're looking at just over $1,000, while a 2TB model will set you back a little over $1,400. It's a lot of money, and there have been discussions over the past week about people rigging up their own Steam Machines that are cheaper and more powerful.

It wasn't long before official retailers got in on the action as well, and that's exactly what's happened over in France. First reported by Eurogamer, a French hardware retailer called LDLC recently announced their Steam Machine knock-off, which they're called the Stim Machine. In multiple places, it boasts about the kit having the same price, yet more power.

While it already appears to have been renamed, probably to dodge any potential legal issues from Valve, you can find the kit on the official LDLC website. You can either purchase the kit and assemble it yourself, or buy it pre-made for a little more, but either way, it still comes to around the same price as the Steam Machine, albeit with a few differences.
