Blizzard Takes Action Against Another Private WoW Server as Classic+ Announcement Feels Imminent

Blizzard Entertainment has been busy handing out cease-and-desist notices for quite some time now.

Last year, the company began to take action against Turtle WoW, a popular private server that delivers a "vanilla WoW" experience with new content. Blizzard would win their lawsuit, resulting in the closure of Turtle WoW.

They've now taken aim at another private server, Project Ascension. Earlier this month, Blizzard sued the creators of Project Ascension. Last week, they escalated things by introducing a summons request.

"A lawsuit has been filed against you," the suit reads, indicating that the creators of Project Ascension have 21 days to respond. "If you fail to respond, judgment by default will be entered against you for the relief demanded in the complaint."

Blizzard Has a History of Shutting Down Private WoW Servers

This is far from the first time the World of Warcraft developer has taken action against private servers. In the past, they've engaged in legal battles against the creators of Nostralius, which ran from 2015 through 2016, running legacy content focusing exclusively on the original World of Warcraft experience.
