Xbox is working on a new feature that will allow you to digitize your physical disc and add a digital version of that game to your Xbox account, per reporting from The Verge.
This news follows hot on the heels of Grand Theft Auto VI announcing it will have no disc version of the game, PlayStation announcing they will halt all physical disc production for any PlayStation game in 2028, and reporting that Xbox is looking to follow PlayStation with their next console not having a physical disc drive.
Per The Verge, testing for this feature began in May and is seemingly known as "Disc2Digital" for now.
The intention of the feature is for users to insert a physical disc of a game and installing and playing the game. Users would then choose to enable the Disc2Digital feature, thus allowing them to continue with a digital version of the game.
That does not mean you'll be free to digitize your copy of the game and then give it to a friend to do the same. That disc is tied to that one digital version, meaning that it would move from one account to another if used...
