This past week, Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y were added to Pokemon Go for the very first time. While the initial additions came in a slightly controversial fashion, upsetting longtime players of the mobile hit, they were eventually rolled out to everybody.
The rollout of the latest Mega Evolution was via a special Timed Research, but unfortunately, it only offered players the chance to net one of its two forms. The other can be obtained in Pokemon Go, but players have realized that doing so will require walking a staggering distance.
Following the disappearance of the famous Mewtwo statue at the Shibuya Pokemon Center in Tokyo, players could net their first Mega Mewtwo in Pokemon Go by completing the Genetic Mastery Timed Research. The research was split, meaning players could only get Candies for either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y, and it included a range of tasks, including catching, powering up, and Mega Evolving Pokemon, as well as hatching eggs, using TMs, and making curveball throws.
