Ever since Sony revealed that it was ceasing physical game disc production in 2028, every single social post has been inundated with backlash. It’s gotten so bad that developers are publicly voicing frustration as their announcements are buried in a thick layer of controversy that is completely out of their control. It’s inescapable, and even tentpole first-party blockbusters like Marvel’s Wolverine aren’t exempt.
After releasing a surprise new trailer last night, comments flooded in parroting the same thing: “I’ll get this PHYSICAL,” “Can’t wait for my DISC copy to come in,” “This game will fit perfectly in my PHYSICAL game collection,” “the PHYSICAL cover art is gonna look so beautiful IN PERSON,” “I’m glad I can buy this PHYSICAL,” and on and on and on.
Players point out the irony that Wolverine treasures his physical photograph of him and Jean Gray together, poking fun at Sony over Wolverine “getting PHYSICAL” in the new footage. “Wolverine going mad over the loss of a physical photo is quite the choice for a trailer at the moment,” said @skidman_studio. Another chimed in, “Man the animation looks so REAL, like, it looks almost TANGIBLE, I mean, like it was actually PHYSICALLY happening.”...
