Vantage Studios has announced that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has sold more than three million copies worldwide since its July 9 release. The game sold two million copies on its first day, adding another million during its first week.

The remake has also received a strong response from players, with its Steam user reviews currently rated “Very Positive.” Ubisoft has continued supporting the game with bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, while a New Game+ mode is also on the way.

Unfortunately, the game’s success arrives alongside reports of layoffs at Ubisoft Barcelona, one of the studios that contributed to its development. Firing developers shortly after releasing a successful game is a really shitty practice, but I cannot fault the people who worked on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and made it what it is.

That blame lies with management and investors, who we have been screaming about since layoffs started tearing through the games industry over the past several years. Developers can deliver a critically acclaimed game that sells millions of copies and still be treated as disposable once the work is finished.
