Players have faced off against numerous extinction-level threats across the Halo franchise, including bloodthirsty space cults, ancient Forerunner artifacts, and a variety of different alien species under the Covenant's banner. While these enemies are plenty iconic in their own right, the Flood itself is easily one of the series staples that have been relatively left behind in modern entries.
Thankfully, while Halo: Campaign Evolved is already offering players a prequel story to further expand the scope of its universe, fans are also being treated to an entirely new perspective on one of the most horrifying moments in the history of the Flood.
Announced earlier this year on Halo Waypoint with a release slated for September 29, Halo: Parasite's Wake is an original horror novel set during the events of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Focusing on the Flood's very first introduction during the familiar outbreak on the Installation 04 Halo Ring, the story instead shows the events from the perspective of the UNSC Marines that made first contact with the unstoppable parasite.
