The original Fallout games are obviously very different to what the series is known for in 2026, but Interplay Entertainment's creation is more than deserving of its place in gaming history. They laid out much of the lore that has become so recognizable today, and the Prime Video adaptation has brought many of the themes and storylines back to prominence.
If you're a fan of the more recent games for the roleplaying and narrative elements, they're well worth trying out, though be warned it's an entirely changed playing experience. That said, there's a project on the way that aims to bring back the first Fallout game in a much more recognizable form, meaning no more isometric camera for those who find it jarring.
Over on YouTube, the channel FalloutMachine has been logging their development progress with short daily videos, as they attempt to rebuild the original Fallout inside Fallout: New Vegas. It's a hugely ambitious project that recently passed day 69, and everything seems to be coming along quite nicely, with a small community cropping up to track progress.
