A new official Ghost Recon release is now available to PS5 and Xbox Series X owners, with Ubisoft quietly launching Ghost Recon: Wildlands Definitive Edition nearly a decade after the original game. Ghost Recon: Wildlands remains one of Ubisoft's most popular and enduring entries in the franchise, still maintaining solid player counts despite being ten years old and even outperforming newer games in the series.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands originally launched on March 7, 2017, placing players in a fictional open-world version of Bolivia controlled by the Santa Blanca cartel. Wildlands was a significant break from the traditional Ghost Recon formula, giving players far more freedom in gameplay and a strong emphasis on co-op play with a squad of up to four Ghosts. The shooter would go on to receive the Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts expansions, free missions, Ghost War PvP, plenty of crossover content, and a total of two years of post-launch support. Since 2017, Wildlands has maintained a dedicated audience despite being followed by Ghost Recon: Breakpoint in 2019, with many players still enjoying its setting, structure, and grounded cartel conflict over the newest entry's sci-fi premise.
