Despite the original HBO series ending in 2019, Game of Thrones remains one of the world's biggest fantasy franchises thanks to the continued success of House of the Dragon and several other projects in development, but another big release for the IP has been delayed to 2027. The good news is that this delay can only mean a better final product, although this does not always mean much to Game of Thrones fans.
The HBO series may have ended, and House of the Dragon may be ongoing, and this new project will now be released in 2027, but there's no end in sight for the wait for Winds of Winter's release. George R.R. Martin's Westeros has essentially taken on a life of its own at this point, with the penultimate book in the series having been in the works since 2011. If the "Curse of his life," as Martin describes, does eventually release, it's not planned to bring the series to an end—the theoretical next novel, A Dream of Spring, is destined to do that.
