House Of The Dragon's Sunfyre Makes Official Return

While there have been quite a few controversial changes in House of the Dragon this season from the original source material in Fire & Blood, none have had bigger implications than the supposed death of Aegon II's Sunfyre. Readers and fans of George R.R. Martin's source material understand just how important Sunfyre is in the larger story, and his death would dramatically diverge the future narrative from the established canon.

That said, there's much debate over whether Sunfyre has actually perished after falling to Vhagar and Aemond at Rook's Rest, and the show is deliberately keeping things ambiguous surrounding Sunfyre's fate. As such, many fans aren't convinced that Sunfyre is dead, especially considering his role in Fire & Blood.

For now, fans have accepted they may not know for certain whether Sunfyre is alive or dead in House of the Dragon at least until the end of Season 3, and more likely not until we reach the show's final season 4 in 2028.
