Since making his unforgettable Star Wars debut in A New Hope in 1977, the Sith Lord Darth Vader has been the defining face of the franchise, with regular reappearances across films, television series, novels, comics, video games, and countless other projects. Vader has recently reprised his role as a major antagonist in titles such as Jedi: Survivor, the Obi-Wan Kenobi live-action series, and even in the animated Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord finale.
Despite exploring different eras of the timeline and expanding his story in new ways, Lucasfilm has remained remarkably consistent with Vader's iconic appearance. His infamous black helmet, flowing cape, armored chest panel, and life-support suit have only been subtly altered in barely noticeable ways over the decades, and as such, has become one of cinema's most famous character designs.
