Maelstrom is one of the most notorious gangs in Cyberpunk 2077. Famed for their "fetishization of cyberware and cybermodifications," the gang members are known for replacing large parts of their faces with cybernetic implants, alongside being absolute psychos.

While the general assumption is that these gonks have replaced their faces with their cyber implants, a player has found that, potentially, they may just sit on top of their existing faces.
The discovery was made by Reddit user ScrapMetal4000, who was completing the Cyberpsycho Sighting mission, Where the Bodies Hit the Floor.
After flatlining Ellis Carter, a Maelstrom member who was tortured so violently, they effectively became a guard dog; the player closely inspected his body to find the cyberware inconspicuously missing. Instead, there was a gaping hole where his implant should be, revealing a face underneath it, reminiscent of the Titans looking through the wall in Attack on Titan.
This revelation sparked a range of theories and discussions.
