CD Projekt Red reportedly greenlit a Cyberpunk 2077 spin-off, partnering with indie devs to make it happen. This spin-off was said to be based on the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime and would have been a very different genre from the main game.
This is according to information gathered by MP1st. Citing a developer’s portfolio, MP1st says that CDPR was working with WayForward, best known for Shantae and River City Girls, on this spin-off. The game would have reportedly been a brawler, featuring characters from Edgerunners.
As per the report, the developer (who MP1st has kept anonymous) lists an “unannounced CDPR Cyberpunk R&D project” on their resume. The project was codenamed “Gemini”, with the dev saying they worked on it from 2025-26. It’s unclear if this means the game was cancelled, or if this is just when the dev left WayForward.
The game is described as a 2.5D brawler, like River City Girls. Mentions of rollback and online play make it clear it was being made with multiplayer in mind - something that would be new for the Cyberpunk series.
