In their attempt to add a split-screen mode from scratch, modders have discovered that Halo: Campaign Evolved already has split-screen functionality baked into its config files. The only thing preventing PC players from experiencing Halo: Campaign Evolved's split-screen mode is a simple mod that brings forward the code already sitting in the game's files.
As any long-time Halo fan knows, local co-op has been an essential part of the franchise since its very beginnings. The original Halo trilogy, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 can all be played in local co-op, and many fans have very fond memories of playing through each entry in this fashion. So much so that when Halo 5: Guardians restricted its co-op mode to Xbox Live, many fans loudly expressed their disappointment. Though this disappointment was expressed tenfold when Halo Infinite shipped with no co-op mode at all. While Halo: Campaign Evolved has embraced the series' local co-op roots on console, PC players can only play co-op via online play, at least in an official capacity.
