Twitch Issues Apology After Hitting Streamer With 30-Day Ban

Twitch has issued an official apology to streamer SmaK after swiftly imposing the content creator a 30-day ban over a comment made during a livestream. The Twitch suspension elicited significant confusion not only from SmaK, but from other prominent creators on the platform.

As one of the biggest online streaming platforms, Twitch has not been afraid to bring down the ban hammer. The Amazon-owned platform's moderation includes multiple tiers of punishments for users committing different infractions, ranging from chat restrictions to full-on account bans for its most serious violations. Even Twitch's top creators are not safe from being suspended, including popular content creator ExtraEmily being banned after her distracted driving nearly caused an accident on-stream. Now, one Twitch creator was banned from the platform and almost immediately reinstated after the company recognized its error.

Twitch is introducing new features that can be used to restrict several features from accounts, including blocking streams and messages.
