Over the years, fans of The Lord of the Rings have been remarkably well served by the various video game adaptations that they have been given to play. The direct movie adaptations buck the trend of those generally being quite poor, while wider releases like the Battle for Middle-earth strategy games and The Third Age did an incredible job of taking a different approach.
As you might expect, though, The Lord of the Rings has always felt the most at home in the RPG genre, and while Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War were very enjoyable, there hasn't been too much to do recently. That could all be about to change though, as one of the lesser appreciated releases could be about to make a surprising return.
As first reported by Player One, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North could be making a return, fifteen years after its original release. That revelation comes after a new listing for the game was discovered in the Steam database files, which also included a reference to Epic services, likely meaning this latest effort has been built in Unreal Engine 5.
