That's right, the Company of Heroes franchise is 20 years old. A game that revolutionized the genre and propelled real-time strategy games into the future was released in 2006. Company of Heroes is celebrating its 20th Anniversary, and Relic Entertainment is releasing Company of Heroes — Definitive Edition, which will release in September. There is no official date announced yet, but Relic has already been busy at work with Company of Heroes 3. The goal for this "Definitive Edition" is to keep everything intact for the game, but modernize it for today's PC hardware. The Definitive Edition will also include the expansions Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor.
A Celebration of Reinvention
The original Company of Heroes is just what the doctor ordered for the time. Strategy games were in desperate need of a change and while Command & Conquer 3 had launched, nothing had really included the sense of micromanagement that Company of Heroes had introduced. The dev team on this has avoided changing gameplay, but does have some improvements. This game is built for long-term fans and the new generation of strategy players. Enhanced visuals are just scratching the surface on this release.
