Ubisoft Officially Confirms Rainbow Six's Own XCOM

The Rainbow Six franchise is no stranger to tactical gameplay, but it's still an FPS at heart.

Rainbow Six Siege, which launched over a decade ago, is still going strong today. Still, you can't help but wonder when we'll see something new. That day is today, though it came in a form people may not have expected. For the first time ever, Ubisoft is giving players the chance to assume the role of Six, commander of the Rainbow unit, and lead teams of up to four operators.

As announced during gamescom Opening Night Live, Rainbow Six Tactics is a turn-based single-player tactical game set in the Rainbow Six universe. You'll have access to a roster of 15 unique operators equipped with specialized abilities. If this sounds somewhat like XCOM, then you're exactly right. Whether or not we'll see permadeath, however, remains to be seen.

Rainbow Six Tactics is slated for a 2027 release for Ubisoft+, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, GeForce Now, Blacknut, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.
