Since the late '90s, the Rainbow Six series has delivered more tactical first-person shooting thrills than any other franchise - and the rise of mobile gaming has seen it expand into things like more casual-friendly action with Rainbow Six Smol providing a 70/30 mix of shooting and strategy. At Gamescom 2026, Ubisoft France started the event off strong with the announcement of Rainbow Six Tactics - a new genre for Ubisoft in some ways outside of the Mario Rabbid Kingdom collabs on Switch and the first time the mainline series will have a non-shooter game.
Tactics Time, R6 Style
The presentation went from video clips of commands being called out and then executed in the X-Com-style overhead viewpoint, which can be moved around a bit. When the word Tactics is used, it's either going to be that view or the more restrained Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Ogre isometric viewpoint with some adjustments - and from what little was shown in continuous motion, it appears this will be more like X-Com in that regard and allow players to see the environment from more angles.
