After a spell of silence, Xbox has finally announced that it’s dipping its big toe into the current conversation surrounding physical and digital releases. Thankfully, what Xbox is offering may be a lot more palatable to anyone who adores their physical disc collections and is not yet willing to part ways with the benefits of discs.
With PlayStation’s all-digital future sure to loom like an ominous cloud until it commences in January 2028, it was only a matter of time before Xbox and Nintendo would follow in its footsteps. Xbox’s novel disc-to-digital feature had been reported a little while ago now, and it seems that it’s prepared to fully unveil it to select users as early as this upcoming week.
As per XBOX Wire, Xbox Insiders will have access to a “digital entitlement” for their physical games, as supported on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, beginning on August 31. This feature would theoretically allow players to preserve their games once their discs are transferred digitally, as it “brings the benefits of digital to physical discs, giving players more flexibility in how they access and play supported games across the XBOX ecosystem.”
