Mario Kart Just Landed On PC And It Looks Incredible

Nintendo doesn’t do PC ports, and that’s just how it’s always been. So when a trailer showed up promising one of the best Wii games of all timeMario Kart Wiirunning natively on a Windows machine back in July, it stopped a lot of people mid-scroll, myself included. Well, it wasn’t a bluff, now that the game is actually live.

Here’s the catch, and it’s an important one: this isn’t officially from Nintendo. The project is called WiiCompiled, and it comes from a developer going by Patchzy, who also announced it on YouTube. This is a full rebuild of Mario Kart Wii, made to run natively on a PC with no emulator, no interpreter, and no PowerPC hardware involved during runtime. In plain terms, they’ve taken the game’s original code and translated it directly into a native PC program, rather than running the original code through a layer that pretends to be a Wii, which is how most fan ports usually work.
