You might remember in 2025 that a misguided Team Fortress 2 player created a 'slur tracker' as a joke, complete with a leaderboard, that just incentivized bigots to compete for the number one spot. It was quickly closed by its creator. Well, exactly one year later, someone has done the same thing for Counter-Strike 2.
As reported by Kotaku, the third-party CS2 Tracker site now has a 'slur tracking' tab that breaks down the number of chat messages containing slurs, with leaderboards for some of the most offensive, like the n-word and f-slur. Gamifying slurs in this way is hardly ideal, and goes beyond the remit of a tracker, but there are some alarming stats to come from this experiment that are worth highlighting.
From the 494,000 players sampled, the site found that roughly 7% of all Counter-Strike 2 players have said a slur at least once. A staggering 2% of all in-game messages also contained a slur, or an average of 1 in 48, accounting for 204 million slurs each year.
