Gamescom is normally an exciting time on the video game calendar. Not only is it the largest gaming convention in the world, with over 368,000 visitors, but it also features 1,734 companies from 66 countries as exhibitors.
However, several of those exhibitors did not leave Gamescom happy. Initially, solo developer Ryan Laley spoke up about how his Alienware and Razer demo laptops were stolen from the event. He called the experience "beyond frustrating and heartbreaking" on social media. Thankfully, Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher developer CD Projekt Red stepped in to offer Laley some assistance.
Laley wasn't the only dev affected by a string of thefts, though. Spanish developer Tessera Studios said that their booth was raided and a locked cabinet was forced open. iam8bit said that they had multiple laptops stolen from their booth on the show floor.
It felt like everyone was talking about a dark cloud over Gamescom 2026. Everyone but Gamescom itself, that was. While police reports were filed, there's no guarantee that they'll amount to anything.
