Insomniac has really helped PlayStation carry the PS5 generation. Not just through its Spider-Man games, but also via the fantastic Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Based on its review scores, the studio will continue that streak when Marvel's Wolverine launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15, although maybe not to quite the same level as some of Insomniac's other games.
Wolverine currently has a 81 on OpenCritic and a 77 on Metacritic. While those aren't bad scores by any stretch of the imagination, they're quite a bit lower than what Insomniac has come to expect from its Marvel games. Both Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 score 88, while Spider-Man: Miles Morales landed on an 85.
"Marvel’s Wolverine gets its claws in deep with a memorable, emotional, and high-stakes story, wonderful interpretations of Logan, Jean, and the rest of the cast, and brutally satisfying combat that distils the core of the character down to every snikt and claw pop," TheGamer's George Foster writes in their 4 out of 5 review.
