Final Fantasy 6 Makes Its Long-Awaited Return In New DLC

When it was first launched back in 1994 for the SNES, Final Fantasy 6 quickly became regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time, a sentiment which is still maintained to this day. It may have been over 30 years since its launch, but the sixth mainline entry in Square Enix's Final Fantasy franchise still welcomes an impressive fanbase, with players agreeing about its stunning soundtrack, story, characters, and gameplay.

Helping mark a turning point for the RPG genre, Final Fantasy 6 truly was a landmark title, and though a modern-day remake is seemingly not on the cards over at Square Enix, fans will be happy to learn that the game is set to make a return, albeit not in the way that many of us would initially hope.

On 22 October 2026, Final Fantasy fans can look forward to the first HD-2D entry in the franchise as an adaptation of 2015 mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius's first story arc, "Lapis", is set to launch as Final Fantasy Resonance.
