It has officially been one year since Ghost of Yōtei was released, and to celebrate the occasion, the game just received an interesting upgrade for players on the standard PlayStation 5. Better yet, this new addition could make the game's already gorgeous world look even better.
That's because Sony has introduced a brand-new AI-powered upscaling technology called Quick Spectral Super Resolution, or simply QSSR, bringing some of the image-quality benefits previously associated with the PlayStation 5 Pro to the regular console.
For those who might not be familiar with the technology, QSSR is basically a streamlined version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), the AI upscaling solution introduced with the PS5 Pro. PSSR analyzes the image on a pixel-by-pixel level and uses machine learning to reconstruct additional detail, resulting in a cleaner and more stable picture than traditional upscaling techniques.
The problem was that this technology required too much processing power to work on the original PS5 – and that's where our new fella, QSSR, comes in.
