Seemingly echoing what happened with Double Fine after it regained its independence from XBOX, Undead Labs has now announced that a “significant number” of employees are being laid off. The news comes just after the State of Decay developer confirmed that it had completed its separation from XBOX and would move forward as an independent, employee-owned studio.
Unfortunately, Undead Labs hasn’t revealed exactly how many employees have been affected by the layoffs. In a statement shared on LinkedIn, the studio acknowledged that not everyone who helped get Undead Labs to this point would be continuing with the company.
Undead Labs went on to praise those affected, noting that many of them had spent years working on the State of Decay franchise and had contributed directly to State of Decay 3. The studio added that their work would remain part of both Undead Labs and the upcoming game, regardless of where those developers end up next.
