Beginning its life with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by author Philip K. Dick before being adapted into a hit movie by Ridley Scott back in 1982, Blade Runner swiftly became something of a cultural phenomenon, drawing attention to the cyberpunk genre, and going on to inspire the sci-fi, dystopian genre as a whole.
Since then, Blade Runner 2049 hit cinemas in 2017, and with an upcoming television miniseries, Blade Runner 2099, expected to continue the series well into the 2020s, there is something about this franchise that keeps fans coming back, even with the news that it is about to experience quite the genre switch.
There is no denying that Blade Runner went on to inspire the likes of hit dystopian RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, and other upcoming titles such as Nivalis Nights, but that is hardly surprising considering the hypnotic world that was born from the idea. With neon-soaked streets, towering advertisements, body modification, and advancements in technology, it is a future that seems impossibly close and yet so far and now, fans can experience just a taste of what it may feel like.
