New Pokemon Release Takes Players Back to the Hoenn Region

A new Pokemon fan game is set in the Hoenn region, featured in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on the Game Boy Advance and later Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the Nintendo 3DS. The third generation of Pokemon is beloved by many fans of the franchise, with some pointing to it as the franchise's peak.

Despite the love for the Hoenn region, Nintendo hasn't revisited it in recent years. The last time that we got a proper trip back to the Hoenn region was with Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS all the way back in 2014. More recent Pokemon games that have revisited old regions have instead featured Kanto (Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee/Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Switch), Kalos (Pokemon Legends: Z-A), the Unova region (Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion), and an ancient version of the Sinnoh region (Legends: Arceus).

Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players will officially be able to obtain Celebi for free on October 7.
