The MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) market has been in a bit of a downward trajectory as of late. While the big two, Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, continue to perform strongly, more recent games have been either failing to keep their player bases happy or outright shuttering their doors.
Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty have been bleeding their player bases month-over-month, Ashes of Creation’s studio shutdown while in its alpha state while New World is shutting down servers in a couple of months. There’s concern over Elder Scrolls Online given Xbox’s restructuring, and who knows where Chrono Odyssey has disappeared to.
Fortunately, with all this concern around the MMORPG genre, one game has become a bit of a success story, at least out of its gate: Aion 2. The sequel to the beloved game from back in 2009, players are thrust back into the world of Arteia two hundred years later where they are to choose a side: Asmodian or Elyos.
