Former PlayStation Exec Officially Comments on PS6 Release Date

The PlayStation 5 is getting old by console standards, but that does not necessarily mean players need the PS6 anytime soon—something recently emphasized by former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida. Reports indicate that it could be coming next year, with the PS6 likely having a $1000+ price tag, and that leads to the question of whether or not Sony should delay the PS6's release date.

Console generations have traditionally followed a fairly predictable cycle, releasing around seven years, with manufacturers eventually introducing more powerful hardware once the existing machines begin to reach their limits. PS5 Pro already gave Sony an opportunity to offer a more powerful version of the current PlayStation generation without completely abandoning the original PS5, while developers continue releasing major games across the hardware. For many players, there simply is not an obvious reason to replace a console that still does what it was purchased to do.
