It may have been over three decades since Final Fantasy VI was first released for the SNES, but it is still considered one of the greatest video games of all time, and is remembered fondly by fans of the long-running Square Enix franchise.
Released back in 1994, the title is best known for its cast of fourteen playable characters, many of which are still as iconic to this day. With many considering FFVI to have set a precedent for the RPG genre as a whole, there is no denying its impact on the gaming industry as a whole. This makes it all the more surprising that it is yet to receive an official modern-day remake, with Square Enix claiming that a full-scale 3D reimagining on the scale of Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth scope would be too big of an undertaking. As such, it would require a 5-part series, which is seemingly not viable for the studio at this time.
Despite this, it seems as though Square Enix still wants to cash in on the love for Final Fantasy VI, albeit in a way that fans have not been campaigning for for the past three decades....
