The Stargate franchise really managed to carve out a niche for itself in one of the most competitive genres around, and it did that by delivering a quality product that wasn't particularly comparable to any of the titans in the space. The 1994 theatrical release was great fun in its own right, and it never really looked back from there, into the SG-1 era and beyond.
If you grew up in any of the years when the series was at its height, then you likely watched at least some of it, and it really felt ubiquitous during the late 90s and early 2000s. Though it has definitely quietened down since then, there has been a regular enough stream of projects to keep the community as a whole alive.
A big part of that was physical releases, and there's a new one on the block that's a collectors' dream, and one of the most accurate renditions of an element of Stargate that we have seen to date.
