Star Trek Ascendancy: The Final Frontier is nearing distribution after a longer-than-planned production cycle. Much like its name suggests, the upcoming release is an expanded version of Gale Force Nine's Star Trek: Ascendancy tabletop strategy game that was crowdfunded in 2025.
First released in 2016, Star Trek: Ascendancy is a popular 4X strategy board game in which players explore a modular galaxy, establish new colonies, develop their civilizations, negotiate, and fight. Built around competitive empire building, the original core set features the Federation, Klingon Empire, and Romulan Star Empire as its three playable powers.
Even with 60 years, 14 movies, and 13 TV shows, Star Trek still hasn't solved these mysteries that keep fans up at night.
In the latest update to its Gamefound crowdfunding campaign, Gale Force Nine revealed that its New Zealand studio had received and unboxed a finished Deluxe All-In copy of Star Trek Ascendancy: The Final Frontier. The publisher said its design and manufacturing partners are consequently putting the finishing touches on the remaining work and that it expects all pledges to be "on the water and on the way to distribution centers imminently."
