Playing The Legend of Zelda titles back when I was just a little kid literally changed my life. Still, it wasn't until I grew up that I discovered the mind behind the franchise a few years later, which would eventually make its creator one of my favorite game developers ever.

And I'm certainly not alone in that feeling! Shigeru Miyamoto is also the man responsible for bringing Super Mario, Donkey Kong, and other beloved franchises to life, influencing different generations of players and helping shape the video game industry as we know it today.

Now, that incredible legacy is receiving another major honor, as the legendary Nintendo developer is set to become the first game developer to receive one of Japan's most prestigious cultural awards.

Miyamoto Will Receive Japan’s Order of Culture

According to information from GameWatch, Shigeru Miyamoto has been officially selected as one of eight recipients in the Media Arts category for Japan's Order of Culture award.

Established in 1937, the honor is presented to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the advancement of Japanese culture across fields such as art, literature, science, technology, and gaming – an industry where Miyamoto has undoubtedly left a huge mark.
