The Helldivers 2 community isn't doing so hot right now. Over the weekend, the game dropped to "Mixed" reviews on Steam again after an update went live that nerfed flamethrowers and added useless anti-tank mines. It's an issue that's been bubbling since launch, controversial balance tweak after controversial balance tweak, so players are banding together to protest in-game by letting the Automaton armies reach Super Earth.
Helldivers 2 has lost 90 percent of its player base on Steam since launch.
They're a stone's throw away from the home planet, the closest they've ever been, and the community's response is a resounding, 'Eh, let it happen.' Of course, Helldivers 2 is run by a game master called Joel who dictates how the story plays out, so some unforeseen accident could stop the Automaton in their tracks.
In fact, a lot of fans aren't expecting anything to happen. But in letting them get this close, players are making their frustration heard by pigeonholing developer Arrowhead into coming up with a believable excuse as to why the Automaton forces can't plant their clanking metal boots on our soil.
We don't know what an Automaton invasion of Super Earth would look like...
