Hunt: Showdown is a game that doesn't get enough recognition. The title has quietly been going about its business for around six years now, drawing in thousands of players every day.

Hunt: Showdown's PS4 and Xbox One versions will no longer be playable once 1896 releases.

Now, a massive update, a rebrand, and a release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has seen the game climb to its highest-ever concurrent player count on Steam despite fully launching in 2019.

Hunt: Showdown 1896, as it is now known, launched yesterday. The game-changing update adds a new biome, enemies, weapons, and hunters and improves the visuals, performance, and audio.

Moving from "the bayou backwaters to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado" saw the first-person shooter hit a new concurrent peak player count on Steam of 59,968 on August 15, according to Steamcharts.

This new record eclipses the previous one set by the game back in June 2023, when Hunt: Showdown hit 44,527 concurrent players.
