Ever since the first gameplay trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, fans have feared that Varric won't survive the events of the game. In fact, many are worried that he'll be killed off fairly quickly, passing the baton onto the player character to lead the new companions.
Now, the latest trailer for the game only feeds into this theory. Throughout the new clips, we see hardly anything of Varric. Even worse, the one line of dialogue we get from him is incredibly ominous, so much so that fans think that the dwarf isn't surviving long in The Veilguard.
As you can see in the trailer, Varric only appears briefly at the very beginning. Here, he passes on some wisdom to the new character: "Rook, you've got this. I've seen your work. You're clever, adaptable, and you don't know when to quit".
If you think that sounds like something someone would say when they know they haven't got long to live, you wouldn't be alone. As soon as the trailer dropped, alarm bells were ringing in the Dragon Age fanbase.
It's also being pointed out that no shot we've seen of Varric appears to be from later in the game. Whenever...
