Peter Molyneux unveiled his self-funded 'god game' Masters of Albion at Gamescom's Opening Night Live. The name 'Albion' raised a few eyebrows as Albion is also the setting of another of Molyneux's inventions, Fable.
In an interview with IGN, Molyneux clarified the relationship between his game and Fable (thanks, VGC). "Fable was set in Albion, Masters of Albion is set in Albion," Molyneux explained. "It's like saying if you set a game in America, you can't set any other game in America. So Albion can't be copyrighted. It's the name for England and Wales and that's how we get away with it."
However, the term used for Old England isn't quite the same thing as Fable's Albion. Theoretically, if any distinctive elements of the Fable series were used in combination with the Albion name, there may be copyright issues for Molyneux's 22cans.
Molyneux admits he isn't entirely sure of legal specifics, "I don't know if I'm honest, I don't really know. I hope so. I mean you would think that the responsible person I should be, I would've spent the last six months in lawyer's offices."
