According to recent leaks, a memory leak issue in the Xbox port of Black Myth: Wukong is reportedly the reason behind the game's delayed platform release.
After speaking with Xbox insiders during Gamescom, Spanish leaker EXtas1stv announced the rumored issue through an X post earlier today.
For those unfamiliar with memory leaks, it's where the game fails to delete data put into the RAM, which then affects performance and eventually crashes the game.
Smaller games that use less RAM could go on for a long time without impacting gameplay despite memory leaks, but games as big as Black Myth: Wukong don't have this luxury.
In Black Myth: Wukong's case, the Series S's limited 10 gigs of RAM could be the reason behind the memory leaks.
With the Series X matching the PS5's 16 gigs of RAM, it's hard to see what other hardware limitation is impacting the game's performance enough to warrant a delay.
While Xbox is the sole platform facing delayed release, PS5 players have also reported frame drops during longer gaming sessions.
