In August 2024, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt joined the PS Plus Extra lineup, and many expected the 2015 Game of the Year to dominate. However, the real surprise was that an indie game took the top spot instead.
Recent data reveals that the hit indie title Cult of the Lamb from 2022 outpaced even CD Projekt’s critically acclaimed action RPG.
Despite The Witcher 3’s reputation as one of the best open-world games, it was no match for the quirky roguelike developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital.
According to a report by TrueTrophies (via Game Rant), The Witcher 3 saw a respectable player count boost of 130.93% after its addition to the PS Plus Extra catalogue in August.
But Cult of the Lamb surpassed expectations, with an impressive 338.81% increase on both the PS4 and PS5.
While direct comparisons between the two games might not be entirely fair, it’s worth noting that 55.4% more players were engaged with Cult of the Lamb than with The Witcher 3.
This data highlights just how much the indie game resonated with the PlayStation Plus Extra community.
