Monster Hunter Wilds is easily one of next year's most anticipated titles, partly because the wait for a new game in the series has been so long. Monster Hunter World was released all the way back in 2018, and despite it being one of Capcom's most successful games ever, we'll have waited a whopping seven years for a new one when Monster Hunter Wilds releases next year.
In an industry that loves both money and sequels, that's quite surprising, but Capcom has recently revealed exactly why the wait for a new mainline Monster Hunter game has been so long. According to art director Kaname Fujioka in an interview with Game Developer, the massive popularity of Monster Hunter World is partly the reason behind the wait, specifically it's massive player base.
Back in March this year, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter World has sold over 25 million copies, cementing its status as the publisher's best-selling game ever made. That's a lot of people playing one game, and Fujioka explains that the more people play a game, the more you have to take into account a "broader level of skill levels and experience."
